Last Call for InGamba Chianti Women’s Trip

When I dream of 2012, I dream of Chianti. Never mind that long ride around France – I left my heart in the sweeping vineyards and charming restaurants and tiny streets of Tuscany. I count myself endlessly lucky to be able to go back and take a few food-bike-and-wine loving ladies with me.

Lecchi will always feel a little like home. Of all the places that I have traveled, this is where I was cared for and looked after and loved the best. Among my favorite memories are long dinners in the kitchen with Anna and Morgaro, the Innkeepers at Borgholecchi Bed & Breakfast. When I arrive they hug me like a daughter. When I leave I cry every time.

There are other things too: Paolo’s meat hook hands, impossibly big around my wine glass as he delivers another chianti – undoubtedly indicative of the size of his teddybear heart. Alessandro’s leathery skin and good hands and mischievous smile. His tiny shop in Sienna filled wall to wall with the finest handmade shoes in the world. Il Magnifico the Baker pulling hot, sweet things straight out of his oven for me.

And then there are the roads.

Roads that prepared my legs to ride the Tour de France. The critical training ground for the biggest challenge of my life. Long, sweet climbs. Fast, zipping flats. Ripping, no-brakes descents that Joao Correia will always say I ride too slow. Storied white roads that elicit drops-and-big-ring enthusiasm from this gravel-loving girl. Vineyards forever, centuries old castles.

We have a few spots left for the women’s trip from April 28th to May 5th. Visit the InGamba site for more details and please use the contact form to email me if you have questions. We have a great group forming and we’d love to share some saddle time with you in the warm, Tuscan sun.

Baci,
Swift

I’ve been riding alot more than I used and dream of doing a century and a bike trip like this someday. Once I’m better, I’ll come ride.
